This is the secret that allowed me to make my living playing guitar. You can use this secret to become a singer, painter, or dancer. But you aren’t limited by genre. You can use this secret to make your life a work of art.
Maybe rock n’ roll isn’t your job, but you can make your job rock. You can be a rock star in your field. Physical therapy, teaching, sales, management, accounting… Whatever you do, do it like a rock star.
Let’s say you want to be a singer. The biggest mistake most singers make is listening to the radio.
When you listen to the radio, you dream of becoming one of those famous voices heard across America. You think to yourself, this is the sound people want. This is the sound that’s popular.
So you work to emulate that famous sound. You practice until you sound just like Adell, or Susan Boyle, or Tim McGraw, or Lady Gaga, or whomever.
And when people hear you sing they’ll say you sound just like the real McCoy. You will be one of the best Copycats in the world.
With a good back-up band and a reputable agent you’re ready to become a really incredible tribute band. But you’ll never be a star.
No one gets excited about Copycats. Long autograph lines do not form around a Copycat.
Do you have any interest in seeing someone who sounds just like Angus Young, or do you want to see the real Angus Young?
Audiences don’t want to see copy-cats. Audiences want to see stars. What’s the secret to being a star? Be unique.
No matter how good you get, there’s always someone out there who’s younger, or cuter, with a better voice and a more interesting story. But no one can be you better than you can.
A true rock star puts their heart and soul into the work. Rock Stars stand out because they speak straight from their heart and soul. How can you possibly stand out if you’re emulating someone else’s soul?
You can’t be Elvis Presley better than Elvis himself. But no one in this entire world can be you.
The secret to being a rock star is to be yourself. Because no one can be you better than you can. Sing your songs the way you think they should sound. Manage your employees the way you think they should be managed. Sell your products the way you think they should be sold. Answer the phone the way you think it should be answered.
This is the secret. This is the key to being unique. This is how you do something no one’s ever seen before, and that’s how superstars are born.
So you might be thinking to yourself, yeah that’s great if I want to be a rock singer, but how do I use this to increase my sales, manage my cashflow, and get this report finished?
